HOLLYWOOD, CA – April 3, 2025
Hollywood State University (HSU) today announced the acquisition of state-of-the-art motion capture equipment, establishing its Roddenberry Center for Advanced Media Technologies as home to one of the most advanced motion capture facilities in the entertainment education sector.
The multi-million dollar investment includes next-generation motion capture cameras, suits, and facial recognition technology that meet or exceed the equipment currently used in major film studios and game development companies.

"This acquisition reflects our ongoing commitment to providing students with hands-on experience using the same cutting-edge tools employed by industry professionals," said Professor Elijah Washington, Dean of HSU's School of Design and Production Arts. "Our students will now be able to create digital performances that rival those seen in blockbuster films and AAA video games."

The new technology will primarily serve students in the School of Animation and Visual Effects, particularly those in the Department of Motion Capture and Virtual Production, as well as the Department of CGI and Simulation. However, the facility will also be available to students from other departments, including those studying acting, game design, and virtual reality filmmaking.

Dr. Elena Garcia, Dean of the School of Media Arts and Technology, emphasized how the new equipment aligns with HSU's forward-thinking approach: "Motion capture is increasingly vital across multiple disciplines, from traditional filmmaking to virtual reality experiences. This investment ensures our students remain at the forefront of emerging media technologies."

The equipment installation begins immediately, with full integration into curriculum planned for the Fall 2025 semester. Industry partners will be invited to campus later this year for demonstrations and potential collaborative projects.

Founded in 1923, Hollywood State University has a long history of educational advancement in entertainment arts and remains committed to shaping the future of the film, television, and media industries.
