The School of Creative Writing and Journalism at Hollywood State University is a vibrant and dynamic center for students passionate about the power of the written word in various forms of media. The school is divided into three main departments, each focusing on a specific area of study:

 

Department of Entertainment Journalism

  • Focuses on the reporting, analysis, and critique of the entertainment industry, including film, television, music, and theater

  • Covers areas such as news reporting, feature writing, reviews, and investigative journalism

  • Provides students with hands-on experience in covering entertainment events, conducting interviews, and writing for various platforms, including print, digital, and broadcast media

  • Emphasizes the importance of ethical journalism, critical thinking, and deep industry knowledge in the coverage of entertainment and media

 

Department of Creative Writing for Film and Television

  • Concentrates on the art and craft of writing for the screen, including feature films, television series, and web content

  • Covers areas such as screenwriting, script analysis, character development, and story structure

  • Offers students practical experience in developing and writing original scripts, as well as adapting existing works for the screen

  • Focuses on the collaborative nature of writing for film and television, with an emphasis on working with producers, directors, and other creative professionals

 

Department of Storytelling and Narrative Arts

  • Focuses on the art and craft of storytelling across various media, including fiction, non-fiction, and multimedia

  • Covers areas such as creative writing, narrative structure, genre studies, and transmedia storytelling

  • Provides students with opportunities to develop their unique voices and styles through workshops, critiques, and collaborative projects

  • Emphasizes the power of storytelling to entertain, educate, and inspire, as well as its role in shaping culture and society
